Australian Government
- National Solar Schools Program
National Solar Schools Program will help Australian schools take practical action to tackle climate change by offering grants of up to $50 000 to install solar power systems, rainwater tanks and a range of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.
- Education for Sustainability Grants
The Education for Sustainability Grants Program aims to support projects that facilitate changes in community attitudes and behaviour towards sustainable development. The 2008-09 round has closed.
- Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative
The Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI) is a partnership of the Australian Government, the States and Territories that seeks to support schools and their communities to become more sustainable.
AuSSI is a whole-of-school approach, to explore through real-life learning experiences, improvements in a school’s management of resources and facilities including energy, waste, water, biodiversity, landscape design, products and materials. The vision for the initiative is for all Australian schools and their communities to become sustainable.
- Solar Cities
The program aims to demonstrate the environmental and economic effects of combining cost reflective pricing with the widespread use of solar technology, energy efficiency and smart meters. Each Solar City will integrate a unique combination of energy options such as energy efficiency measures for homes and businesses, the use of solar technologies, cost reflective pricing trials to reward people who use energy wisely, and community education about better energy usage in an increasingly energy-reliant world.
Australian Solar Cities are in Adelaide, Alice Springs, Blacktown, Central Victoria, Moreland, Perth and Townsville. Solar Cities’ consortia in each location are working with industry, businesses and their local communities to rethink the way they produce and use energy.
Tasmanian Government
- TCCO ClimateConnect grants
The ClimateConnect grants program provides funding for projects that help local Tasmanian communities work together to find climate change solutions. The program’s key objectives are to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve energy, encourage others to find climate change solutions, promote new ideas to reduce emissions and conserve energy.
ClimateConnect grants will support community groups with projects that involve partnerships with businesses, local councils or schools. Applications for the first round of ClimateConnect grants closed on Friday 30 January 2009.
